Peter Gould
Peter Gould was born in Portsmouth in 1952. He studied piano and cello before going to the Royal Academy of Music in 1970, where he gained his Associateship of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO) after only ten lessons on the organ. He also won prizes for harmony, choir training and organ accompaniment. From 1975, he was assistant organist at Wakefield Cathedral. In 1983 moved to Derby on his appointment as Master of Music at Derby Cathedral, where he created a traditional cathedral choir of boys and men. In 1997 he founded the Cathedral Girls' Choir. He is a well-known leader of musical life in Derbyshire, having organised major charity concerts, cycles of concerts attracting large audiences and an annual summer series of organ recitals with international class soloists.
