Of telephones and concerts, plus a
recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons -- Music and Sonnets,
with Classical Music agony aunt ALICE McVEIGH
Hi Alice,
As reported by Paul Pelkonen on Superconductor -- Mahler Interrupted, Tuesday night's New York Philharmonic performance of the Mahler Ninth was stopped by an irate Gilbert just before the end. The man -- near or in the front rows -- had been allowing his phone to ring for some time, whereupon the conductor stopped the last movement and fixed him with a burning gaze for some time before inquiring, 'Are you finished?' and 'Is it off?'
