Stephen Hough has been steeping himself in the two familiar Liszt piano concertos lately. Hard on the heels of his recording with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrew Litton comes a series of concerts with Marin Alsop and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Nottingham performance (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 9 February 2012) bore out some of the comments, in reviews of the CD, on the freshness of Hough's approach. This was not just another canter round the track for a couple of hackneyed warhorses...
