Britten's 'Albert Herring',

Albert Herring is a chamber opera that Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) wrote in late 1946 and early 1947. The libretto by Eric Crozier is based on Guy de Maupassant's short story Le Rosier de Madame Husson. Britten and Crozier moved the story from France to a small town in England. Britten may have liked the story because it is possible that in some way the shy, reticent Albert resembled the composer in his youth...
