Jane Watts launches Derby Cathedral's
series of summer organ recitals,

It being 4 July, internationally-acclaimed recitalist Jane Watts launched this year's Derby Cathedral (Derby, UK) organ recital series with Dudley Buck's entertaining Concert variations on 'The Star-spangled Banner'. She made the most of the expressive contrast between variations, throwing off with complete aplomb the strenuous-sounding workout for the pedals that is No 3, bringing a gentle intensity to the quiet No 4, and delivering the concluding fugue with great energy.
Her account of Franck's Prelude, fugue and variation was sensitive without over-sentimentality; her playing was suitably brisk in William Lloyd Webber's Festal March and sweetly lyrical in his Arietta...
