No one is quite sure when Joan of Arc was born; but 1412 does well enough, which makes this an anniversary year. The English share in her life ended in a pile of ashes, but she did us the sterling service of driving us out of France. We now need a Maid of comparable determination to expel us from the European Union. At first sight this is a book, with its text presented in six different languages...
