The Hallé Orchestra begins celebrating
its ten year residency in Nottingham,
heard by MIKE WHEELER

 

The Hallé Orchestra's residency at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, is ten years old this year. The main party is still to come, in November, but meanwhile the preliminary celebrations were kicked off with Mark Elder directing a fizzing account of Stravinsky's Fireworks (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 26 September 2012).

In Elgar's Cello Concerto, soloist Alisa Weilerstein's bold initial entry led to a reading of the first movement that found both the pathos and dignity of the undulating main theme...
