Bohemian Rhapsody - Benaud Trio. © 2012 Melba Recordings Pty Ltd

Hard on the heels of their cross-genre performances, specifically with music of Robert Plant (Led Zepplin) and Art Garfunkel (Simon and Garfunkel), the Australian Benaud Trio brings us the fervid 'signature' item of the late Freddie Mercury (1946-1991), lead singer of Queen (1971-1991).

Melbourne-based composer, arranger and conductor Nicolas Buc's take on Bohemian Rhapsody by Zanzibar-born Mercury, also known as Farrokh Bulsara, is notable for its lyric poetry. However I find the surreal edginess in Mercury's original 'Rhapsody' far more to my liking.

The greater part of this CD is more accurately of Bohemian origin from Czech composers Bedrich Smetana and Antonín Dvorák...
