The new production of Wagner's Parsifal at the Metropolitan Opera is a monumental work about redemption and spiritual awakening. Although the version by first time opera director, François Girard, is sometimes controversial, it is always fascinating. He deserves credit not only for innovation, but also for adhering to Wagner's intent most of the time and for bringing out aspects of the libretto that are there but not always underscored.
