Naxos has a widely recognized track record in reviving long-neglected composers, many of whom enjoyed widespread popularity during their own times. In particular the eighteenth century abounded in 'lost' composers known in the opera houses, concert halls and homes of the aristocracy. Prolific German composer Johann Hasse (1699-1783) was primarily active in Dresden, Venice and Vienna and noted for his opera seria, many written in association with Italian librettist Metastasio.
