Among the finest modern recordings of the six 'mandatory' Bach solo violin partitas and sonatas, three from women catch my attention; for one, German virtuoso Christiane Edinger (born Potsdam, Brandenburg, 1945). Today Edinger plays a violin by Ragnar Hayn (Berlin, Newark) made in 2008. However her Naxos/Bach CDs (8.550569 and 8.550570) were recorded in 1992.

At the same time one need acknowledge titans of the mid twentieth century; all recorded the Bach partitas and sonatas for solo violin, each is available and to be without one or more on your shelves may be considered neglectful...
