Much to the detriment of Western musical culture, Mexican composer Carlos Chávez's work is little known outside of his native land. In this respect, Jorge Federico Osorio's recording of two of the composer's lesser-known works is perhaps more important as a historical statement than an artistic one. For if his goal is to reintroduce Chávez to the international stage, then even a competent performance accomplishes more than the average recording.
