Well, Juanjo Mena certainly made an impact on his first visit to Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham, UK, 9 October 2013, broadcast live on BBC Radio 3). A programme drawing on three ballet scores written for Sergey Dyagilev's Ballets Russes should be a runaway success and, with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra on cracking form, it was.

The second suite from Falla's ballet The Three Cornered Hat -- in which a lecherous Magistrate gets his come-uppance -- began with a graceful account of the Neighbour's Dance, throwing into relief the Miller's earthy, macho display of flamenco vitality...
