Eugene Onegin is the novel that Alexander Pushkin wrote completely written in verse. A classic of Russian literature, it was published in serial form beginning in 1825 and in its current form in 1837. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) made it into his fifth opera and it was premièred by students of the Moscow Conservatory in 1879. The first professional performance of the opera took place at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre in 1881...
