Clare Hammond plays in Nottingham,
heard by MIKE WHEELER

Clare Hammond began her piano recital in the Sunday morning series at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham, UK, 17 November 2013) with Mozart's Variations on a Minuet by J C Fischer, K179. It was a delightful opener, played with beautifully crisp finger-work, although some brief moments were not ideally focused.

She brought an unaffected mixture of playfulness and poignancy to three of Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words, though the headlong pace she set herself in 'Spinning Song' (also popularly known as 'The Bee's Wedding') was a touch too swift, and lost a degree of clarity at times...
