PAUL WIFFEN listens to the
new soprano-piano duo TangOpera

 

Steiner House Theatre in London provided an intimate setting on 13 November 2013 to take in the talents of new soprano-piano duo, TangOpera, featuring Spanish soprano, Amaia Azcona Cildoz, and Anglo-Iberian pianist, Helen Glaisher-Hernández, in a concert hosted by the Iberian and Latin American Music Society. The theatre's two-hundred-and-fifty seats offered a substantial yet warmly convivial setting for an appreciative audience on this night of tango in North West One. Opening for the virtuosic A Piacere Trio, it was TangOpera who were for me the quiet stars of the show. The duo offered a selection of pieces exploring the lyric side of the Argentine tango, tracing its bel canto roots through the music of Ástor Piazzolla and Carlos Guastavino...
