'... high-quality British Christmas music ...'

The style and imagination of this unaccompanied choral selection extends beyond the music to the album name, Incarnation, the minimal white cover with its blue circle and the CD booklet's many intimate monochrome new born baby photos. Recorded in Douai Abbey, Berkshire, England, this new Signum Records release sits at the ultra-ethereal end of the Christmas music spectrum. There appears to be very little well-known Festive music here — only the thirteenth century Veni, Veni, Emanuel and Benjamin Britten's A Boy was born were familiar to me, and this is definitely not a tinsel-clad album to sing along to. Everything is either early (in one case as far back as the twelfth or thirteenth century) or written within the last hundred years...
