As expected, 2013 was a vintage year for Britten, with many new recordings and a substantial number of re-issues. Still, rare compositions seemed to have been given the cold shoulder, and then, when we had almost given up, this very fine issue came along, albeit at the tail end of the year.

Britten made the hazardous trip from the States back to England in the spring of 1942...
