It is something of a change in my recent experience to hear Beethoven's last piano sonata without having to sit through the previous thirty-one. All the pleasanter, too, that the rest of this CD is made up of comparative rarities, with opus numbers that make reasonable sense, played with proper panache by Inna Faliks. The Polonaise was dedicated to the Russian Empress, who was with her husband at the Congress of Vienna in 1814...
