Almost Physical Impact
Verdi's Requiem, heard by MIKE WHEELER
Three years after inaugurating Derby's refurbished Roundhouse as a concert venue with a performance of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast, Derby Bach Choir and members of other local choirs returned to perform Verdi's Requiem (Derby, UK, 29 March 2014). The oddly patchy acoustic seems to be still a problem, but from a more central seat than last time it sounded much more satisfactory. The background hum from the building's heating/lighting is also still there, though with a little concentration this can be screened out, especially in a performance as compelling as this...
