from the Philharmonia Orchestra

Conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Philharmonia Orchestra played to a near-capacity audience, bringing freshness and conviction to a conventional-looking programme (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 30 April 2014).

I've heard performances of Sibelius's Finlandia whose opening snarled more intensely. This one had more of an air of focused determination which carried over into the rest of the work, creating an incandescent reading that made the work sound more unified than sometimes...
