I think any review of Greg Bowers' Rational Passions CD needs to consider the opening quote by the composer: 'These works represent an initial interest in music cognition/music and the mind. Studies reveal that traditional music theory language is not sufficient to reveal the entire holistic listening experience. These works attempt to capture elements of music that go beyond notes on the page ... I am not interested in dismissing nor clinging to techniques of the past, but rather augmenting music with a new depth of emotional understanding'...
