Stephen Johnson's latest Discovering Music presentation featured two key works by Debussy, Prélude à L'après-midi d'un faune and Images (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 14 January 2015).

He began by quoting Pierre Boulez's assertion that modern music began with the Prélude. Unusually, for such a ground-breaking work, there was no first-night riot, as there was with, say, The Rite of Spring. Instead, the audience was spellbound, and the performance had to be repeated...
