'What can one say when confronted with perfection?'

I started this task in lightish vein. 'Tis the Christmas season and we're having the worthy violas and celli of the Bromley Symphony over this evening — the house is pretty tidy — notice that I failed to write 'very tidy' — and I get to review the King's Consort's latest, Purcell's immortal Twelve Sonatas in Three Parts, starring Cecilia Bernardini and Huw Daniel (violins), Reiko Ichise (bass viol), Lynda Sayce (theorbo) and Robert King (organ and harpsichord).

It would be, so I told myself, both easy and agreeable to mete out a few discriminating words of intelligent thoughtfulness on such a topic...
