Inspirational and Reflective Sacred music by Georgy Sviridov - praised by GEOFF PEARCE '... beautiful, pure and never forced or showy.'

Georgy Sviridov (1915-1998) is not very well known outside Russia and, whilst he was a student of Shostakovich (amongst others), his music is quite unlike that of anyone else. He should be much better known. I have a couple of recordings of some of his songs and a children's cantata, so when this disc came up for review, I jumped at the chance.

Sviridov wrote Hymns and Prayers over the last ten years of his life, and was still working on it just a few weeks before he died...
