Alexander Feht was born in 1961 in Akademgorodok, a part of the Asian city Novosibirsk, located 20km south of the city centre on the shores of the Ob Sea, a man-made reservoir on Siberian river Ob. Akademgorodok is the educational and scientific centre of Siberia.

Feht received formal musical education (piano, violin, musical theory and composition) but considers he is mostly self-taught. In 1987 he emigrated with his wife and son to the United States as a political refugee...
