Derby Concert Orchestra's Christmas Concert

Ballet music dominated Derby Concert Orchestra's Christmas concert this year (Derby Cathedral, Derby, UK, 9 December 2017). 'Dance of the Hours', from Ponchielli's opera La Gioconda, was suitably lively and colourful, followed by most of the concert suite (minus the Miniature Overture and Arabian Dance) from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. Starting with a nicely dapper March, the selection ended with a Waltz of the Flowers given a good lift to the rhythm...
