The star of the show was the young lyric tenor, Derek Taylor, who had already proved himself in this role at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts. He has sung at Santa Fe Opera and will be Cassio in Los Angeles Opera's upcoming Otello. His Rodolfo is a passionate poet with a warm, resonant voice that could melt the coldest critical heart. He can act, too, and there weren't many dry eyes at the end of this evening. His Mimì, Rosemary Musoleno, was somewhat timid in her approach, but she sang with distinctively coloured tones and eventually stole the hearts of the listeners.
