Konrad Boehmer

German-born Marxist Dutch composer and writer Konrad Boehmer was born in Berlin on 24 May 1941.

He studied composition in Cologne with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Gottfried Michael Koenig, then settled in Amsterdam, working at the Institute for Sonology at Utrecht University until 1968, and then at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague from 1972 (as professor of music history and theory).

He was a self-declared member of the Darmstadt School, and his compositions are organised serially, sometimes using elements of rock, jazz and Marxist songs.

He died in Amsterdam on 4 October 2014, aged seventy-three.
