Humphrey Searle

Humphrey Searle was born in Oxford on 26 August 1915, perhaps the only English composer of his generation to study with Webern in Vienna (1937-8). He was also an authority on Liszt, and wrote a book in consequence. His own music used a version of 12 tone technique, from which came three operas, five symphonies, two piano concertos and many shorter works. He died in London on 12 May 1982.
