Multi-gifted humorist Gerard Hoffnung was a one-off. Other inimitables of the twentieth century have included Heath Robinson, Spike Milligan, Glenn Gould, Gerald Scarfe, Ogden Nash and Jackson Pollock.
After escaping to London from the Nazi nightmare of 1939 with his parents Herr Ludwig und Frau Hildegard, the perceptive young Berliner, Gerhard Hoffnung, cottoned on to British eccentricities and humor with astonishing ease.
His activities kept him constantly 'on the go'; as artist, teacher, cartoonist, caricaturist, musician and tuba player, plus enjoying overwhelming success as both broadcaster and raconteur...
