Love's Eternal Empire

Music by Janácek and Suk
impresses BILL NEWMAN

Despite this event encouraging a 55 per cent attendance, it already, as I expected, has a claim for the most outstanding of the year. [20 February 2010, Royal Festival Hall, London, UK: Janácek: Taras Bulba; The Eternal Gospel; Suk: Asrael: Symphony for large orchestra in C minor. Sofia Fomina, soprano; Adrian Thompson, tenor; London Philharmonic Choir; London Philharmonic Orchestra; Vladimir Jurowski, conductor.] It proves, beyond doubt, that the better known, more popular works of composers Dvorák and Smetana are not the only music by Czech composers able to generate emotional excitement amongst British and European concert audiences...
