Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin (1799-1837) wrote the verse novel from which the libretto for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's opera, Eugene Onegin, was taken. The novel is made up of three hundred eighty-nine stanzas of iambic tetrameter with an unusual rhyme scheme now called the Pushkin Sonnet. The story was first published in serial form beginning in 1825. A complete edition appeared in 1833, but the currently accepted version was completed in 1837...Copyright © 24 September 2011
