The winner of the 2010 Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition, pianist Richard Uttley, played a programme that was a lot more artfully put together than it might have looked at first glance (Derby Chamber Music, Multi-Faith Centre, Derby University, Derby UK, 14 October 2011).
He began with two of J S Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues. The B flat Prelude and Fugue from Book 1 immediately served notice of an admirably lucid keyboard manner, while the F minor from Book 2 was expressive without undue emoting...
