This Naxos release brings together the final two symphonies from Gerard Schwarz's excellent Seattle Symphony cycle of Howard Hanson symphonies which have been unavailable for quite some time now. The Sixth is a pensive and deeply reflective work with Hanson focusing on the strings as he does in several of his works for maximum effect. Schwarz is a persuasive advocate of this work which to my knowledge is the only version available in the catalogue...
