It has been a long while since I heard Kurt Masur conduct a live concert. I have always regarded him as an eminent musician, and in the German repertoire he is the true successor of Furtwängler, Toscanini, Walter, Klemperer, Wand, Tennstedt and Sawallisch. Always totally focused on the music, this programme was beautifully chosen to elucidate his many musical gifts...
