This was a fabulous evening [Memorial Concert for the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, Hokusai Chamber Orchestra conducted by Akiko Ohtomo, 27 April 2012, St James' Piccadilly, London UK].
The new piece [Shakunage no odori -- for the memory of the disaster, by Keiko Takano], although introspective and despairing in style, suited the seriousness of the occasion. After several hearings of the recording made at the concert, the work started to make complete sense to my ears. I praise its originality in comparison with some of the best works I have heard in the last year...
