SIMON BROUGHTON listens to
works by Gideon Klein and Hans Krása

 

In the first of the Royal Academy of Music's Czech Series [London UK, 18 February 2013] we heard music by Dvorák, Janácek, Hans Krása and Gideon Klein. The subtitle -- Melody, Passion and Persecution -- is probably supposed to clarify things, but that describes just the first few bars of Janácek's Intimate Letters quartet!

Assuming people know Janácek and Dvorák, Hans Krása and Gideon Klein belong to the subsequent generation of Czech music extinguished by the Nazis...
