With Mark Elder conducting the Hallé Orchestra in a taut, urgent reading of the Overture to Verdi's La forza del destino, the new orchestral season at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall got off to a gripping start (27 September 2013). Elder told us beforehand about his love for Verdi, but he didn't need to -- it shone out of every incisively shaped bar.
