A Turning Point
The first in a series of Rome orchestral concerts,
heard by GIUSEPPE PENNISI
On 3 October 2015 all three thousand seats in the Sala Santa Cecilia (the main concert hall in Rome) were filled, as well as all available standing room. The start of the symphonic concert season coincided with the beginning of the tenure of new Superintendent Michele Dall'Ongaro. Antonio Pappano had recently renewed his contract as Musical Director and Principal Conductor.
Also, during the previous season, there had been rumors that the core of the audience — the subscribers — had not been pleased by a program which included, in their view, excessive emphasis on twentieth century composers...
