Towards the Abyss

On 31 October 2015, I heard and listened a revival of a 1997 La Scala production of Alban Berg's Wozzeck. Normally, I do not review revivals and I generally review opening nights. I have already published a review of the mise en espace of Wozzeck at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest as recently as five weeks ago ('A High Level', 23 September 2015), and the same baritone, Michael Volle, was the protagonist of both performances. So why rush to Milan on a very crowded train, as 31 October was the last day of the International EXPO?..
