If history is to judge, being haunted by one's own music is an occupational hazard for the budding composer. Just as Beethoven lamented the popularity of his Moonlight Sonata, so did Rachmaninov come to regret his own Prelude in C-sharp minor. Gustav Holst joined that tradition with his orchestral suite The Planets, which effectively sentenced the rest of his œuvre to collect dust on library shelves. But the audience wants what the audience wants...
