Totally Cohesive Mozart and Brahms clarinet quintets - heard by GEOFF PEARCE '... a gem of a disc ...'

This is a gem of a disc, featuring distinguished performers and great music. In my youth, before starting on the oboe, I spent some time playing clarinet and was familiar with these pieces. Karl Leister and the Amadeus Quartet's recording was my introduction to these works and probably, for my money, remains my favourite, closely followed by Alfred Prinz and the Vienna Chamber Ensemble.

It is a real challenge, when preparing a disc, to decide how your recording is going to distinguish itself from what has come before...
