Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) is undoubtedly not only Brazil's greatest composer of the twentieth century, but also one of the world's leading composers of the same century. By 1940 he was already a shining light of South American music, and his career was strengthening at a faster rate than one could imagine. In the 1920s the composer was for the most part resident in Paris, where he had formulated a far-reaching vision of Brazil in his music. In 1944 he visited the USA for the first time, and the following year he conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra...
