Channel Classics
Channel Classics Records, based at Herwijnen in the Netherlands, and with a staff of four, was founded in 1990 by C Jared Sacks. The name is based on Kanaalstraat in Amsterdam.
Sacks grew up in Boston, MA, USA, and trained as a professional horn player at Oberlin and the Conservatorium in Amsterdam. After fifteen years of making music, he turned what was previously a hobby into a business - making recordings of classical music.
Channel Classics' artists include Amanda Roocroft, the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Andrew Manze, the Boccherini Quartet, Brecon Baroque, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Candida Thompson, Dejan Lazić, Emily Beynon, the European Community Baroque Orchestra, Florilegium, Holland Baroque, Iván Fischer, Jos van Immerseel, Kirill Petrenko, Lavinia Meijer, the Meridian Arts Ensemble, Nederlands Kamerkoor, Pieter Wispelwey, Rachel Podger, the Ragazze Quartet, Richard Tognetti, Roy Goodman, Rosanne Philippens, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Trevor Pinnock and Vassily Sinaisky.
In 2006 the label began to release SACD recordings of Chinese performers, including the China National Symphony Orchestra.
