Gone are the days when I would tango seductively round ballrooms, or continue even more dashingly on ice. But music such as this is not for the rink or dance floor. It was delightful of Nadia Boulanger to urge Astor Piazzolla, when studying with her, simply to go on tangoing; and in a sense all these composers have done just that, even if in a manner that hints more at Ravel's treatment of the waltz...
