The Penderecki String Quartet is now completing its twentieth year as quartet in residence at Waterloo's Wilfred Laurier University, Ontario, and has during that time undertaken the performance of a great quantity of new music and been a major inspiration to Canadian composers both young and older. This CD is the first that they have devoted exclusively to Canadian composers. The five featured composers were all born around 1960, clearly all knowing their own creative minds well by now, and their pieces were all commissioned by the Quartet specially for this recording.
