Tony Westerman

Tony Westerman (born 1950) has played the piano and organ since early childhood and whilst a student had lessons with Dr Alan Spedding at Beverley Minster. Tony read Music and Anthropology at Hull Teacher Training College and later did an OU degree whilst teaching in the East Riding. In 1977 Tony moved to Ashbourne to run the music department in the town's ancient grammar school where he worked for thirty years.

During his time at Ashbourne Tony had lessons from Peter Gould at Derby Cathedral and is quite familiar with both the strengths and weaknesses of the large Compton organ. For many years he was organist at St Luke's, Derby and is now organist at St Laurence, Long Eaton.

In retirement, Tony's passion for listening to and playing organ music is undiminished. He has also spent a lot of time working with local organ builder, Edmund Stow, though dozing and reading now occupy much of his time.
